Authentication

The API uses a standard Bearer Token authentication scheme. You must include your API Key in the Authorization header of every request.

Authorization: Bearer sk_live_...

Virtual Users (Tenants)

The most powerful feature of the Ichos API is the Virtual User system. This allows you to build a platform (like a podcast hosting site) where your users own their content, but you manage it via a single API key.

How it Works

  1. Stable IDs: You choose the ID for your user. This could be a UUID, a database ID from your system, or a username. It must be alphanumeric (underscores and hyphens allowed).
  2. The Header: Pass this ID in the x-virtual-user header.
x-virtual-user: user_12345

Automatic Provisioning

You do not need to “create” a user before they can start using the API.

  • When you make a request (e.g., GET /v1/podcasts) with a new x-virtual-user header, the API automatically creates that user record in the background.
  • Subsequent requests with that same header will access that user’s specific data silo.

Rate Limits

Creation of new Virtual Users is rate-limited to prevent abuse.

LimitScope
100 New Users / MinutePer Organization

If you exceed this, you will receive a 429 Too Many Requests error with the code RATE_LIMIT_EXCEEDED.
